Please note that your paper is subject to further review, and may be rejected if it is deemed that the language quality of your paper is not acceptable.
Who submits the full paper?
The Presenting Author must submit the full paper and will act as the main point of contact for the full paper with the organisers. The link to submit the paper has been provided in the abstract notification email. If you do not have this link, please email: tra2024@conferencepartners.com
Review and Notification of Acceptance
All full papers will go through a peer-review process carried out by reviewers selected by the TRA 2024 Programme Committee.
Notification of acceptance or rejection will be sent to the Presenting Author on 15 December 2023.
Registration of the Full Paper Presenter
When notified of acceptance, the Presenting Author is required to accept the offer by registering for the conference and paying in full by 15 January 2024. Information on registration fees will be provided in the autumn, and you will be provided with a link to register at the appropriate rate in your acceptance email.
Please note that if a presenter fails to register by 15 January 2024, their paper:

Preparing Your Paper
If your abstract has been accepted for the TRA2024 conference, there are a number of options now available to you. These options are:
- Prepare a paper for the ETRR journal;
- Prepare a full conference paper;
- Prepare a short paper;
- Prepare an entry to the VISIONS researcher competition.
Unfortunately if you have not yet submitted an abstract, it is now too late for TRA2024. We will now take a closer look at the different types of paper that can be submitted.
Paper for the ETRR Special Issue
As part of the abstract review process, all reviewers were asked to comment if the abstract suggested the paper was likely to have sufficient novelty for the ETRR journal. Those abstracts that were approved by 2 reviewers were also assessed by the ETRR editors to ensure they were in scope for ETRR. If your paper has satisfied these criteria, then you will have been invited to submit a full paper to the ETRR journal. If so, you should follow the appropriate template and your paper should be 4,000 to 6,000 words in length. If you no longer wish to submit a paper to ETRR, you do still have the option of submitting either a conference paper or a short paper. The deadline for all papers is October 11th 2023.
Papers submitted to the ETRR journal will be subject to a desk check and full peer review (as per the usual ETRR processes). Those accepted for the ETRR journal will be published in a special collection of the journal, but not in the conference proceedings (both publications will be fully open access). If your paper is not accepted for the ETRR journal, it will instead be passed back for inclusion in the conference proceedings. If this happens, the length of the paper will not need to be reduced. Please note that all papers for ETRR will need to be submitted twice – once using the ETRR editorial manager and once using the Transport Research Arena (TRA) submission portal (to secure your place in the programme).
Full Conference Paper
The majority of papers submitted will be standard conference papers. If you have been invited to submit a conference paper, you should use the appropriate template and your paper should be 4-6 pages in length (typically up to 3,000 words); again the deadline is October 11th 2023. These papers will be reviewed by TRA reviewers, and accepted papers will be eligible for publication in the conference proceedings. If you no longer wish to submit a full conference paper, you can then submit a short paper instead.
Short Conference Paper
Short papers should be 2-3 pages in length (using the conference paper template) and will also be assessed by TRA reviewers. These papers will not be included in the conference proceedings, but will allow authors the opportunity to speak at the conference. Examples of materials suitable for a short paper could be a work-in-progress or a case study of research being used in an industry application.
VISIONS Senior Research Competition
If you have chosen to enter the VISIONS senior researcher competition, then you must also include some additional information alongside your paper. This includes a CV, a research impact statement and details of a recent impactful European research project. Further details are available here
Presenting Your Paper
All accepted papers for TRA2024 will be offered the opportunity to present their paper through either a poster or oral presentation; we will be aiming for approximately 50% allocated to each format. Our intention is that both formats will be treated equally, and at TRA2024 we will have approximately 6 poster sessions that will be co-timetabled alongside the oral presentations. A dedicated area will be made available for the posters, and this will be adjacent to the main hall for the plenary sessions; it will be a highly trafficked area and offer high visibility to the posters.
Terms and Conditions (applicable to all forms of acceptance):
- The full submitted paper must adhere to the full paper submission guidelines outlined on the Conference Website.
- The full paper submitted is in English.
- This full paper has only been submitted once for TRA2024.
- It is the responsibility of the presenting author to submit the full paper. They are the main contact whose responsibility it is to communicate with other co-authors.
- The presenting author is available to present at the conference between 15 – 18 April 2024.
- The presenting author must register and pay in full by the deadline indicated in the full paper review outcome email. If they do not register and pay in full, the full paper will be removed from the programme and any associated publications.
- The text of the full paper, along with the names and affiliations, and/or additional documents as requested, will be published on the conference website, and on the conference app, and this will not raise any copyright issues.
- A copy of the slides may be published online after the conference.
