- Senior Adviser on network performance
Dr. Arjan Hijdra is an infrastructure planner and researcher. His background enables him to link engineering, network and governance perspectives. He holds a PhD degree in infrastructure planning and a M.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering. He started his professional career in 1994 in international port consultancy. In 1999 he joined Rijkswaterstaat, the executive arm of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Waterstaat. He is senior advisor on network performance within Rijkswaterstaat and co-ordinator of Network Governance for CEDR.
In the past decade Arjan has been project leader for the World Economic Forum on resilience of infrastructure within the Future of Construction program, he was seconded at the US Army Corps of Engineers in Washington for a comparative study on network performance, and for a full academic year he was a visiting scholar at MIT, Cambridge, to investigate value optimisation of infrastructure projects. Arjan is co-founder of the Global Infrastructure Institute, a not-for-profit organisation fostering the practical use of evidence-based solutions to push social, ecological and financial sustainability in the infrastructure sector.
