Participants travel by minibus along the instrumented motorway segment (approximately 800 m, with planned extension beyond 1.5 km), where a dense roadside perception infrastructure has been deployed on gantries and supporting structures. The system integrates a heterogeneous sensor suite including LiDAR units, microwave radars, high-resolution RGB cameras, and thermal imaging devices. In total, several dozen synchronized sensors provide overlapping fields of view, enabling full-lane coverage and multi-perspective object tracking.
The roadside infrastructure generates a continuously updated, high-fidelity digital representation (digital twin) of the monitored road segment. Multi-modal sensor fusion supports robust object detection, classification, and trajectory estimation under varying lighting and weather conditions. The system supports the identification of complex traffic scenarios, including lane changes, cut-ins, abnormal deceleration events, and other safety-critical interactions.
Special emphasis is placed on the AI training workflow: labeled multi-sensor datasets are used to train and validate detection and behavior-prediction models. The site operates as a large-scale, real-traffic laboratory, providing ground-truth-quality data for the development and benchmarking of automated driving functions and cooperative ITS solutions.
